Microwave Satellite Technologies, Inc. and KenCast, Inc. will bring live TV to handheld devices (PDA and Smartphones) in Central Park during the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 7, 2004

NEW YORK CITY. - Microwave Satellite Technologies, Inc. (MST), the Multiple Service Operator of Hawthorne, NJ, who employs its fiber and wireless infrastructure for Wi-Fi access, will carry several channels of live TV in Central Park during the New York City Marathon on Sunday to handheld devices through its NuVisions Broadband service. One of the channels will provide coverage of the Marathon.

KenCast, Inc. of Stamford, CT will provide the content distribution system. Live TV will be multicast in MPEG4 format generated from encoders provided by VBrick, Inc. of Wallingford, CT. Several channels of live streaming video will be multicast by KenCast from NuVisions access points. The NuVisions HotZone for this demonstration encompasses Central Park. Mobile users on foot, or in vehicles, in the Park with KenCast's Fazzt Handheld Client on their PDA or Smartphone will be able to select from several channels of live TV. The live TV will be delivered in the Park at broadband speeds on the NuVisions WiFi network.

NuVisions Broadband uses four strategically located buildings as Wi-Fi relay points to blanket Central Park, and other parts of Manhattan's West Side. Eventually, the network will expand to cover Columbus Circle and places such as Lincoln Center and the marinas on the West Side, and will grow to cover major portions of Manhattan including the financial district and the Battery Park area.

"Our goal is to make our service more attractive by unleashing our users from the high speed Internet access "umbilical cord", said Frank Matarazzo, President of MST. "Ultimately, as our wireless hotspots grow, users will be able to travel throughout New York and not be leashed to their wired home computer connections."

The Handheld Client enables a flawless viewing of Fazzt "live streaming video" on the handheld devices, even if the wireless network experiences outages that extend to several seconds. The Fazzt "catalog" enables users to browse, request and receive content on demand (movies, songs, games, etc.). Fazzt "streaming files' also provides the ability to deliver files as streams of metadata - allowing thousands of mobile users to receive files as soon as they capture any metadata equal to the size of the associated original files. The latter capability permits shortest-time-possible delivery in the background to moving handheld devices that must be turned on/off in consideration of battery life and that face occasional terrain-induced outages.

"Fazzt is well known for its ultra-reliable delivery of large files and live streaming," said William Steele, Chairman & CEO of KenCast. "With the Fazzt Handheld Client and the extended coverage of the broadband NuVisions WiFi network, mobile users in the NuVisions HotZones can experience this flawless quality of service for live TV to their PDAs and smartphones."
