At KenCast, we’ve spent decades helping customers move massive files — from feature films to mission-critical data — across networks where reliability, security, and efficiency are non-negotiable. In this 2025 interview, CEO Dr. Henrik Axelsson explains how Fazzt, our content delivery software, continues to evolve with customer needs and how innovations like Application-Level Forward Error Correction (AL-FEC) and Smart FEC are redefining the way data is distributed.
Fazzt: The Swiss Army Knife of Content Delivery
Fazzt has been under continuous development for nearly 30 years. Built on feedback from hundreds of customers worldwide, it has grown into a comprehensive content delivery solution — flexible enough to meet a wide range of distribution challenges.
At its core is what Henrik calls our “secret sauce”: Application-Level FEC algorithms. These ensure that content stays intact even when networks fail. For example, distributing a feature film might take 12–24 hours. With AL-FEC, Fazzt can recover from an hour-long outage during transmission — and still deliver a flawless file.
Why Smart FEC Matters
Traditional methods of handling packet loss in difficult environments often rely on carousel retransmissions: resending the same data repeatedly until all receivers have what they need. This is inefficient, especially when devices like cars, planes, or mobile equipment frequently go in and out of coverage or are powered off for long periods.
Smart FEC takes a different approach. Instead of endlessly resending, it generates an infinite stream of correction packets. Each of those packets can be used to reconstruct any part of the original file. The result is faster, more efficient delivery, even in the toughest conditions.
Real-World Applications
Smart FEC isn’t theoretical — it’s already in use:
Hurricane Hunters: Fazzt has been used to send data from C-130 aircraft flying directly into hurricanes, down to ground systems.
U.S. Military: We’ve supported morale and welfare projects, providing resilient content delivery solutions for personnel in challenging environments.
These projects show the power of combining Fazzt with Smart FEC to achieve dependable results where ordinary networks fall short.
Looking Ahead
KenCast continues to refine and expand Fazzt:
New functionality to make it a true one-stop shop for content delivery.
Partnerships and vertical integrations to extend its reach.
Continuous innovation in algorithms and features, balancing proven approaches with new breakthroughs.
As Dr. Axelsson says, it’s “a little bit of the old and a little bit of the new” — always improving the foundation while pushing into new possibilities.
